about us

My husband, Rob, and I make up Vis Photography. We love living life together, and we love working together too! I do all the talking, and he's my quiet secret weapon. We're so blessed to be able to create art, meet wonderful people, and capture those "stop and smell the roses" kind of moments. I really do think that the art of photography is a lot about stopping to smell the roses. Life is so busy and chaotic sometimes that it takes the stillness of a photo to remind us what's worth stopping for. Even a wedding day can fly by before the bride and groom realizes the beauty of what they just experienced. It's the photo of that first glance or embarrassing moment that can reveal the eternal significance hiding behind the fleeting seconds. Rob and I met in the third grade and have been inseparable since the ninth grade - you can ask him about the mysterious gap in years. We were married the day before I graduated from college. Since then we've enjoyed and tolerated many adventures, discovered our love for photography, had two sweet babies, opened our hearts wider to the world, and we are blessed to continue living day after precious day. We can't wait to meet you and share a bit of life with you! -- Love Leah Vis

After doing Alan & Libby’s anniversary session, we raced off to a field to do a Beloved session as well. I love doing these sessions. They have so much purpose, and we were blessed to be able to do this with a couple who has 25 years of connection, experiences, conflicts and resolutions, and seeking to love each other more and more.

Here’s Jon and Laura’s best americasnexttopmodel pose. They should probably apply as the first couple to be on the show.

Back in February I attended WPPI and heard Jesh De Rox talk about the Beloved sessions that he came up with. The room was packed, and people were telling me how last year the whole room was in tears. I thought to myself, “Ok, I know what’s going to happen. He’s going to try to reproduce that. He’s going to try to get everyone all emotional. Blah, blah, blah.” I thought I had it all figured out, but 3/4 of the way through his presentation I was all choked up as well.

A Beloved session is just for married couples. It’s a photo session, but not a normal photo session. We will get great pictures, but that’s only the cool by-product. The actual goal is the experience during the session where love is celebrated, enjoyed, brought to the surface, rediscovered, or reignited. I lead the husband and wife through the session in such a way where they are focused on each other and hopefully only secondarily or not at all aware that I’m there. Beloved sessions are for old and young, awesome marriages and rocky ones. It’s about remembering what really matters.

I wanted to think of a different name, but Beloved is so perfect. Beloved perfectly explains this precious person in your life. Thanks Jon and Laura for being my first Beloved session!

I LOVE this picture. Only a married couple would have such comfortable and knowing faces. My friend Annie once said that when a person is married, she doesn’t like to hang out with one without the other because they’re more complete when together. Beautiful.
